Namibia Holiday & Travel - Parks & Reserves - Private Game Reserves

National Parks  |  Conservancies  |  Private Reserves  |  Transfrontier Parks

Private landholders in Namibia play a significant role in the conservation of wildlife. This has resulted in several outstanding conservation initiatives on privately owned land. The largest of these is the NamibRand Nature Reserve, a vast area of over 180 000 hectares situated south of Sesriem. This scenically beautiful conservation area was created by Windhoek businessman Albi Brückner.

Manni Goldbeck initiated the Gondwana Cañon Park bordering the Fish River Canyon, while several lodge owners have created private nature reserves on their land, focusing on the conservation of certain species of wildlife.

At present there are almost 200 private game reserves registered in Namibia, mostly in the Otjozondjupa Region. There are about 30 in the Hardap Region and about 25 in the Omaheke Region.

Extending over nearly 180 000 ha, it shares a common border of nearly 100 km with the Namib-Naukluft Park in the west, while the imposing Nubib mountain range forms a natural border in the east.
