The Namibian Tour and Safari Asso-ciation (TASA) is primarily a standards organisation. The strict rules of membership ensure that all companies displaying the TASA logo conform to far-reaching standards of quality control, professionalism and legal compliance. TASA’s goal is ‘To promote and develop sustainable and professional tourism in Namibia’.
All members of TASA have to complete a two-year probationary period before being invited to apply for full membership. Only full members are allowed to display the TASA logo. It is a stamp of assurance that enables you to book with full confidence.
TASA members include safari operators, air-charter operators, travel agencies, car hire, shuttle services, activity operators, ship/boat operators and tour facilitators, and tour guides.
TASA is celebrating their 20th anniversary this year and Venture Publication has produced a commemorative issue of Travel News Namibia to honour this milestone.
TASA’s structure The Tour and Safari Association of Namibia is a private organisation comprising people actively involved in Namibian tourism. The Association has an elected, voluntary board of 10 members including a chairperson, vice-chairperson, secretary and treasurer. A permanent office is maintained in Windhoek with two full-time members of staff. The members of the board are tasked to maintain broad and wide-ranging portfolios that cover all issues relevant to the tourism sector in Namibia.
TASA is a member of the umbrella organisation, FENATA (Federation of Namibian Tourism Associations), which looks after the interests of the wider tourism community in Namibia.
TASA projects TASA has a strong lobby with the public tourism sector that is used to push for changes advantageous to our members. We also provide bursaries for tour-guide training schemes and we work with other tourism associations on matters of mutual interest.
We have strong links with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the Namibian Tourism Board and Namibia Wildlife Resorts. TASA has adopted the Transformation Charter on Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment, and started a BBEE Membership category.
For further information TASA has a comprehensive website – www.tasa.na – where you will find more information about the association, as well as detailed lists of all its members, with direct links to their individual websites. Destination Namibia TASA produces a magazine, Destination Namibia, to promote Namibia as an international destination and to provide information to the wider tourism community and general public. Destination Namibia is available, free of charge, at several local and international outlets and also on request from TASA.
