The North-Western Region Namibia’s North-Western Region extends from the Kunene River southwards across the sparsely populated Kunene Region down to the Ugab River, the southern border of the Skeleton Coast Park. It holds a special attraction for lovers of remote and wild places to negotiate its challenging and rugged terrain in four-wheel-drive vehicles. Attractions in this region include the desert-adapted elephants, the scattered Himba settlements, the impressive Epupa Falls, Twyfelfontein and its rock engravings, the Petrified Forest, Burnt Mountain and the Organ Pipes.
Etosha Region The pivot of the Etosha Region is the internationally known Etosha National Park, which turned full circle with its centenary in 2007. The 100-year celebration was a time to acknowledge the tireless and tremendous conservation efforts of many people, to celebrate the many animal species that have trodden on the borderline of extinction and through conservation labours are now thriving in a protected area.
North-Eastern Region It is only in Namibia’s north-eastern region that the landscape and environment becomes truly African. Perennial rivers and expansive floodplains, lush tropical vegetation, an abundance of game and birds and scattered settlements of rural people provide a complete change of scenery from the vast dune seas of the Namib, the long linear dunes of the Kalahari, the rugged and sparsely populated western escarpment and the panoramic vistas and distant mountain ranges of the deep south.
Central Northern Region The Central Northern Region extends from the sparsely populated Kunene Region in the west eastwards across the four densely populated regions of Owambo – Omusati, Oshana, Ohangwena and Oshikoto – and then south to include the species-rich Waterberg Plateau Park. Interesting attractions include the Otjikoto and Guinas lakes, Hoba Meteorite and the Dragon’s Breath cave on farm Harasib.
