Namibia’s economy is based on agriculture, fishing, mining, food processing and tourism focused on export markets in Europe, North America, Asia and the rest of Africa. Tourism has grown tremendously in the last ten years and has become a major contributor to Namibia’s GDP, export earnings and employment. As an export-dependent economy, Namibia has been hit by the global economic downturn but, thanks to a combination of good economic policies and a continuing mining and infrastructure investment boom, the country looks well placed to take advantage of the upturn when it comes.
