Set to become an annual institution in the country, Diamond Trophy Namibia took place for the first time in November 2008. About 80 adventurous Hungarians travelled for 2 500 kilometres in northern Namibia, competing for the grand prize of four uniquely cut Namibian diamonds. The four 0.25-carat diamonds, sponsored by Herrle & Herma and Hardstone Processing, were cut in the new ‘Sun of Namibia – a token of eternal passion’ style developed by Hardstone Processing in 2007.
The 12-day route goes from Windhoek to Tsumeb, through the Etosha National Park to Twyfelfontein and Brandberg to Swakopmund and back to Windhoek. Participants take part in several challenges, and are given points based on their behaviour and adaptability. Participants undertake the journey in two categories. The tour category is for those participants who just want to have a good time and to families travelling together to Namibia. In the race category all participants are given a map that will help the team’s orientation in Namibia.
